Terms of use

Version 1.0.0 · plain English, and it means what it says · last updated 12 October 2026

You can use it free, forever

If you are a person using this for your own work or study, it is free. No account, no trial, no limits, and no payment now or later. I grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use it on Macs you control.

If you are a company, talk to me first

If a company, school or other organisation wants to deploy it, build on it, or use it as part of what it sells, that needs a separate licence from me. Write to [email protected]. I am not trying to make this difficult.

Please don’t redistribute it

Don’t sell it, rent it, repackage it, host it on another download site, or pass it off as yours. Send people the link instead — it is free for them too. Don’t take it apart to make a competing product, except where the law of your country expressly gives you that right (for example decompilation for interoperability under EU law) — nothing here is meant to override a right you actually have.

The open-source parts inside it

The app is built with open-source software: Python, Tcl/Tk, PyObjC and OpenSSL. Those parts are not mine and are not covered by these terms; each comes under its own licence, and nothing above limits what those licences let you do with them. Their licence texts are inside the app: right-click it, choose Show Package Contents, and open Contents › Resources › Licences.

Your data is yours, and I never receive it

Everything the app records stays in one file on your Mac. It makes no network requests at all, so nothing is collected, transmitted or stored by me, and there is nothing for me to lose, sell, or be compelled to hand over. Back it up yourself; see the privacy notice for what this website does, which is a separate matter.

It is unsigned, and what that means for you

The download is not signed or notarised by Apple, so macOS will warn you and you have to allow it deliberately. That is a cost decision, not a hidden reason. You choose whether to trust it; the download page publishes a checksum so you can confirm the file you received is the file I built.

No warranty

The app is provided as is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows. I have tested it as carefully as I know how; I cannot promise it is free of faults. Keep your own backups of anything you would be upset to lose.

Limits on liability

Because this is given to you free of charge, I am not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, lost data, lost time or lost profits arising from using it. Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid me, which is nothing. None of this limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded — and nothing here takes away rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be waived.

If you break these terms

Your licence ends and you should delete the app. That is the extent of it.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada, and its courts have non-exclusive jurisdiction — non-exclusive so that you are not prevented from bringing a claim where you live, if your own law gives you that right.

These terms can change

If they do, the new version appears here with a new date and applies to releases published after it. I have no intention of charging people for this.
